Initial Work Approved For Port Hedland

Orebody 24 Development In Western Australia

BHP Billiton approved today a US$822 million (BHP Billiton share US$698 million) investment for the development of its Orebody 24 mine, located approximately 10 kilometres north-east of Newman, Western Australia. Orebody 24 is a sustaining mine to maintain iron ore production output for the Newman Joint Venture operations.

Release Of Draft Environmental Documents For The Proposed Port Hedland Outer Harbour Development, Western Australia

BHP Billiton today released its Public Environmental Review (PER)/Draft Environmental Impact Statement (Draft EIS) to seek Commonwealth and Western Australia government approvals for the proposed development of an Outer Harbour facility in Port Hedland. The proposed Outer Harbour development is integral to BHP Billiton's future expansion plans at its Western Australia Iron Ore operations.

Norfolk Group Awarded $13 million project

March 2011

Integrated engineering services company, Norfolk Group Limited (ASX: NFK), announces that its wholly-owned electrical and communications subsidiary, O’Donnell Griffin, has been awarded a $13 million contract for the High Voltage (HV) early work at the Jimblebar iron ore mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

Thiess Wins Iron Ore Infrastructure Contract

March 2011

Thiess has won a $166 million contract to provide bulk earth works and selected infrastructure for BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s Jimblebar mine near Newman in Western Australia.
Managing Director David Saxelby said Thiess is delighted to continue its relationship with BHP Billiton Iron Ore.
“The project maintains Thiess’ long standing presence in the Pilbara region delivering large scale civil projects to blue chip clients,” Mr Saxelby said.
Under the new contract, Thiess will provide bulk earthworks, drainage and civil structures, road works and buried services.

Decmil Group Awarded A$71M Contract for Warrawandu Village

March 2011

The Decmil Group Limited (ASX:DCG) (“DGL”) today announced its wholly-owned subsidiary, Decmil Australia Ltd, has been awarded a A$71million contract by BHP Billiton Iron Ore to install permanent accommodation at the Warrawandu Village in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
Decmil Group CEO Scott Criddle said the award of this contract lifts the company’s order book for work in hand for 2011/2012 to approximately $250M.
The Warrawandu Village is to be located approximately 25km east of Newman.

BHPB Further Growth at Western Australia Iron Ore

March 2011

BHP Billiton today announced approval of US$7.4 billion (BHP Billiton share US$6.6 billion)1 of capital investment to continue production growth in the company's Western Australia Iron Ore operations. It will deliver an integrated operation with capacity in excess of 220 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), on a 100% basis, with first production expected from the new Jimblebar mine in early calendar year 2014.

Fluor Secures $500 Million Contract

February 2010

Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) announced today that its joint venture with Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) was awarded a contract by BHP Billiton (LSE: BLT) to execute the next phase of its Rapid Growth Program. The focus of the project will be the continued expansion of BHP Billiton's iron ore operations in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia. Fluor booked approximately $500 million in the company's fourth quarter of 2009. The Fluor SKM Iron Ore Joint Venture's scope includes overall program management activities and engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for specific elements of the mine, port and rail works.

Appointment of Iron Ore President

February 2010

BHP Billiton announces the appointment of Mr Chris Campbell as President of its Iron Ore business, replacing Ian Ashby who will become the CEO of the Western Australia Iron Ore production joint venture with Rio Tinto.
Mr Campbell's appointment is expected to become effective as Mr Ashby's workload in the JV increases, which is expected to occur progressively over the coming months.
In his new role, Mr Campbell will have overall responsibility for the Company's global Iron Ore operations.

BHP Billiton today announced approval for US$1.93 billion (BHP Billiton share US$1.73 billion) of capital expenditure to underpin the further accelerated growth of its Western Australia Iron Ore business. This investment represents early expenditure for the company's Rapid Growth Project 6 (RGP6). RGP6 is expected to increase installed capacity at the company's Western Australia Iron Ore assets to 240 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) during calendar year 2013.

LJN Consortium Contract Variation

January 2010

Civil and mining services contractors NRW Holdings, in joint venture with Laing O’Rourke and John Holland, have today been awarded a variation by BHP Billiton Iron Ore to their existing contract for the southern section of the rail duplication for the RGP5 Project. The variation is valued at approximately $145 million to the Consortium, with NRW’s additional component worth approximately $105 million. NRW will deploy approximately 170 additional personnel

Kerman Awarded Two New Pilbara Projects

November 2009

Perth based unlisted public company Kerman Contracting Limited (Kerman) has been awarded two contracts for BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s Rapid Growth Project 5 (RGP5) Expansion Works in the north west of Western Australia.
The combined value of these two projects is $58.0 million with work commencing immediately and for completion by August 2010.
The first contract awarded to Kerman is the design and fabrication of 40 conveyor modules for BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s port expansion at Finucane Island. These modules will allow high level conveyors to carry ore to the new berths in a fully enclosed environment to mitigate dust and noise issues.

AusGroup Limited (‘AGL’ or ‘AusGroup’ or the 'Group') today announced the award of a AU$100 million contract by BHP Billiton Iron Ore.
AusGroup’s Australian subsidiary, AGC Industries Pty Ltd ('AGC'), was awarded the contract for the structural, mechanical, piping and heavy haulage of the Rapid Growth Project 5 at the company’s Yandi operation.
