Indigenous Employment

Indigenous WorkersOur Indigenous Policy reflects the commitment of our organisation to lead the way and work constructively on important employee diversity issues in the workplace, in particular, our dealings and interaction with the Indigenous peoples of the Pilbara, Western Australia. We recognise that Indigenous employment and training initiatives implemented on our projects, in collaboration with other key stakeholders, add value and strengthens pathways to sustainable development in Indigenous communities.

FAST will strive to meet the following principles:

  • We acknowledge and respect the Indigenous peoples of Australia.
  • We respect the fact that the Indigenous peoples of Australia were the first occupiers of Australia.
  • We respect Indigenous Australians, their cultural characteristics, their unique connections to land, sea and spiritual traditions and stories.
  • We are committed to initiatives in Indigenous sustainable economic development, skills development, and working toward the achievement of mutually beneficial outcomes between Indigenous peoples and our contractors.

Achieving Indigenous Engagement Goals

FAST will take a three way approach to providing opportunities for Indigenous people to become involved in our projects. They are as follows:

Direct employment - FAST is committed to achieving a 7% Indigenous employment target on all of its programs. All direct employment jobs held with our contractors are open to experienced Indigenous workers applications.

Training - Through the PINGKU traineeship, FAST offers Indigenous people an opportunity to gain skills in the mining construction industry. Training is aimed at both the long term unemployed and those with minimal work experience in the construction industry. PINGKU aims to provide an excellent training environment with the opportunity of real employment outcomes upon graduation.

Indigenous contracting - FAST is committed to engaging Indigenous contractors to our projects. Indigenous contractors are invited to tender for work through regular FAST channels. FAST sees the engagement of Indigenous contractors as an important means of working with and involving Indigenous people in the Pilbara on our projects.
